National Gallery

I’m typing this post while taking a train from Ottawa back home to Toronto. I thoroughly enjoyed catching up with a good friend and having time to explore a city I’ve only been to for work.

One of the highlights of my trip was visiting the National Gallery of Canada. I developed a stronger love and appreciation for art when I took a film studies course in university. I learned different tenets of art through this film class and it snowballed into changing my perspective when viewing artistic and media pieces.

Anyways! The National Gallery (NG) was special for me. The only other gallery comparable in size I had visit recently was the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO). I had no idea what to expect and I didn’t research the gallery ahead of time.

When I arrived at the NG, everything kind of spoke to me. The architecture, the sunlight coming through the windows, the quietness, the art… it was a beautiful moment. I spend a few hours going through the gallery. I went on a weekday in the early afternoon and there were hardly any other guests there. It felt like I had many rooms in the gallery to myself.

All in all, it was a great experience. I was able to discover some new pieces and reflect on some of the themes and periords in the gallery. I highly recommend!
